Paul was lonely when he was in prison. He says, "At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength …. 2 Timothy 4:16-17 (NIV)

Everyone of us are bound to face loneliness in some point of our life. Example;

Lonely when opposed, attacked, ridiculed, criticized, isolated by friends
Lonely when you go through a painful experience that no one else seems to understand.
Lonely when you’re going through grief while every one else seems to be having fun.
Lonely when you’re misunderstood, or embarrassed, or criticized.

How to overcome loneliness?
Be Paralyzed or Stay Positive?
Make the best of a bad situation. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

God has planned everything for us, even our period of loneliness. He allowed Paul to be stuck in prison and lonely. Then Paul started writing many of his letters that now appear in the New Testament!

Don't get bitter and start to isolate ourselves from those who hurt us. Building walls around our life keeps people away from us, makes us more cynical or resentful, pushing more people away from us - A vicious cycle!!

If you’re lonely right now, God understands! Jesus understood every human emotion, and there were times when he was lonely and abandoned. Knowing the next day he’d be crucified, Jesus took three of his best friends – Peter, James, and John – with him to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane. He asked them to pray with him, but they fell asleep, and Jesus felt alone.

If you’re lonely right now, then share your loneliness with Jesus.

Sermon 25 May 2008

A-Pslam-A-Day is coming to an end. The last Psalm 150 will be on 29 May. Personally I have benefited greatly from this small little exercise. I am more disciplined and interested to read my bible every morning. It has become a habit that I have cultivated over the past 5 months. (It helps that John installed the whole bible in my hp =D)

What's next? A-John-A-Day! Chapter 1-21 =)

My Reflection for the sermon today (How to live a life on the cutting edge for God?)

1) Step Out
I am too used to being in my comfort zone and I have stopped to always be a blessing to others. Even though I advocate it with words, I have failed to accomplish it with deeds. Words without Deeds is pointless. I have to meet the needs of others physically and it starts from AT12.

2) Stand Out
I find my faith wavering whenever the storms of my life come and I don't feel like I'm always victorious in Christ. And everytime I think of giving up, God reminded me of my spiritual family - my brothers in JH12 and my brothers in AT12 - and I am encouraged to continue with the race. I don't want to be the weakest link and allow the devil to break into our defence. Because of that, I managed to stay on. Staying power comes from staying together (in the Body of Christ!) Ps 133, Ecc 4:10

3) Speak Out
I find myself always indulging in pessimism and very caught up in my life situation. I forgot to count my blessings and always be thankful. God reminded me that He truly desires my thanks offering and encouraged me to see the good out of every possible evil.

So now I want to give thanks to God that my malfunctioning hp is functioning mildly again! I also managed to retrieve 90% of my contacts which got lost in transition. I was so glad today. It made me realise that I have taken my hp (and possible other things) for granted and how much I can't do without them!

(Praise Him in everything, for He has made me glad! - we sang both songs today!)

Dear Boys

There are many activities mostly during the school holidays for us (AT12) to spend more time together. Do make an effort to avail yourself to these activities because we hardly have time together during school term.

I understand that it's only human that we want to be in the company of the friends we are comfortable with. So if one don't come, the other also seefirstdepends. Can I challenge all of us to step out of our comfort zone and even use every opportunity presented to us to know our other brothers - those we interact less with -more!

I also understand that we have only 24 hours but alot of things to do. Thus we lavish our time only on "important things" such as schoolwork. Let us be good stewarts of time because spending time with God and God's family is definitely no less significant.

Heb 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

However there are times when we really don't want to or can't commit ourselves for a particular activity. It could also be more time is needed to check our schedule before deciding. Let us take the responsibility to inform others about it promptly!

Let our yes be yes and our no be no. Otherwise things are just left hanging and unable to proceed on. Seefirstdependsanything puts in people a sense of uncertainty. It needs to be dealt with now! If not, everybody will be waiting for everybody else and nobody would want to take initiative because the uncertainty makes people feel vulnerable and instills in them the fear of rejection.

Combined worship with Uncle Shengchou's boys. His boys are serving in GKids worship and it will definitely be a new experience worshiping with the professionals!!
For the Word sharing, we may split into our individual group.

9pm Marine Parade. Dinner for those hungry. Collect rented bike at ECP.
10pm Set off. Route to be confirmed. Eat along the way
2am back ECP. Pitch tents. Sleeping under the blanket of stars !!

Dear all,

I will be able to attend Pastor Hee Guan's wedding on 24 May Saturday cos my reservist doesn't include weekends! Thank God!

As camera is not allowed in the naval base I'm using an old hp w/o camera . Thus my contact list in the sim card is not updated. I even sms and called Craig and Joel Ang using their old numbers and wonder why they so DAO never reply. My SE700K hp has a jammed button and sms + call pple w/o my knowledge. Thus to update the contact list in my sm card is v difficult.

Dear everybody, long time I no post, blame busyness but actually shd blame my poor time management! Thanks for the MOM post and the service yday it's time I start to stop my procrastination! Thanks to Daniel, Craig, John, Joels, ER the blog never died!!

In between my coming from wedding to my rushing to Hokkien service, the short sermon I heard from Pst Tommy Tenny really struck me. Martha vs Mary. For that few weeks of my blog truancy, I hardly did any Marying (spend quality time with God) too busy with the world (excuses) and worst, I grew sick of Marthanising such as ministry work (rejection galore) and posting on this blog (sianz). The only thing I did consistently was reading the Psalm!

Psalm 131:2 spoke to me some days back.
"But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me."

To me, a weaned child is someone who is no longer crying, throwing tantrums and kicking up a fuss. A weaned child is someone who knows that all the resistance is futile and must learn to accept the fact and submit to him.

Trust & Obey! There is no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to Trust & Obey!

Let us continue to pray for the well-being of one another.
Psalm 133:1 "How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!"

Hey family! All of you still reading a-Psalm-a-day rite? So you all should know what i'm going to share on Psalm 112. Right..? Haha..

What i took away from the Psalm112 is that with the fear of the Lord, victory and a righteous walk with the Lord is assured.

2 His children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.

4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. [c]

5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely,
who conducts his affairs with justice.

6 Surely he will never be shaken;
a righteous man will be remembered forever.

7 He will have no fear of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear;
in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.

9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor,
his righteousness endures forever;
his horn [d] will be lifted high in honor.

The above promises follow when God's Word is your right-hand man. Basically for me as a councillor, it is very important that I have the fear of the Lord(well, everybody should have it regardless of what position you're in as long as you're a Christian) cos if i do not "conducts his affairs with justice", i will not be seen as a councillor. Leadership is influence! :D

As for us as warriors of light, v7 would probably have spoken to you too. To me, i do admit that bad news scares me the most. Whenever given a choice to have the good news first or bad news first, we'd choose bad news first cos we want to "get it over and done with". In actual fact, we're just scared in our hearts. Thinking that the good news dat follow will be able to replace the fear in us after hearing the bad news. But God wants us to be "steadfast, trusting in the Lord". And surely, "Even in darkness light dawns for the upright"! Amen! :D

Psalm 110

Even if this psalm is really short, I won't copy it down here.

Anyway, this Psalm speaks of the blessings that God will bestow on His Son.

We can take solace from this Psalm as it says that God is all powerful, and none of the nations can stand up to Him. Therefore, if we seek God in whatever we do, and do His will, then he will aid us, and none can stand against His power. So if we are with God, we will be able to be successful.

More importantly, I would like to put down here what I shared during cell group processing time today.

Where exactly does God lie on our list of priorities. For myself, God isn't the first thing I think about when I wake up. I don't rush home to spend time with Him. I don't rush to read my bible before breakfast. Even though I still do it, I'm more and more just going through the motions. Is going to church more important than our homework? I'm not saying we should neglect our homework, but I'm saying if you have a social gathering, or a birthday party on Sunday, we should put God first and go to church. Basically, if it isn't life or death, or extremely urgent, we should try hard to spend more time with God.

Therefore, I encourage all of us to reflect on how we can improve our relationship with Him. An integral part would be our Fear of the Lord. Because if we do fear God, then we would naturally put Him first, and not put Him last.

Think about it.

Psalm 105

Hi guys! Looks like im starting to post punctually.. xD Anyway, here's my sharing on Psalm 105.

Basically, I feel that the whole Psalm is talking about the faithfulness of God, how it was the source of strength for Joseph who eventually became the "master of his household"(v.21). He was given a high rank position by the king if im not wrong.. And it was by God's faithfulness and grace!

The next example shared in the Psalm was the one on Moses leading the people out of Egypt. Had it not been for God's love and mercy, they would have been consumed by the plagues that God sent on the Egyptians..

I just feel that God has been faithful to every single one of us ever since we were born and that we cannot take His faithfulness for granted(yes, im sure you've heard this time and again). But "people tend to forget"(quoted from pastor's preaching ytd.). Below are verses that you can memorise to remember God's Presence with you always! :D Below are some verses to remind you of God's everlasting faithfulness and goodness!

v1 "Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done."

v4. "Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always."

v8 "He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations."

v14 "He allowed no one to oppress them(Isrealites travelling to Canaan); for their sake he rebuked kings"

v29 "He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night."

v41 "He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert."

Lastly, a verse to "discipline" us.
v28 "He sent darkness and made the land dark- for had they not rebelled against his words?"

Psalm 103

Well, this is the psalm that pastor preached about today, so for all those who went, I think you know what Psalms 103 is all about. If you didn't go today, you can hear Pastor's message on the FCBC website when it comes out. So since I shouldn't really repeat Pastor's message here, I think that I will post up my personal reflections on Psalm 103.

Today, we learnt why we should continually sing to God and worship Him in everything that we do. I'm quite sure that most of us, including me, haven't been living up to this. We often do things that we aren't quite proud of. I mean, would it be worshiping God if we tease a poor classmate that is always the butt of the class's jokes? I don't think so. Therefore, we should examine all our actions. I'll try my best.

Also, we must put in our best effort in all we do. If doing our homework, or helping someone else with their homework is part of our worship, we should show Christ-like values in putting in our best effort in helping our friends, and not do things half-heartedly.

Most importantly, I think that reading the word of God and praying would be a form of worship to Him, and therefore, we shouldn't think that because Sanctification Week is over, we can slack off and become lukewarm christians.

I personally haven't been spending much time with God because I've been busy with the things of the world. This is not correct. We must come back to God!

That's basically it. Sorry it's kinda short, but that's the main message that I took away from the sermon today. Got exam tomorrow.

Hey guys! *Woah you finally u post!*

Well, to be frank with you guys, I have been drifting away from God for the past 1 week+ until today. I have not been spending time with God(besides a mere 15 mins everyday, wait, not even everyday...) but instead i've been either sitting infront of the com, tv or work(majority is com). I know, its not good for me to be doing this.. I always knew it was wrong. But it had always been head-knowledge. Until today.

After I showered, i decided to spend time with God. I knew i could not run away any longer. The whole time with God was spent on praise and worship. But it was enough. 45-50mins of praise and worship. Was enough. I was truly ministered during this time.

I realised how stupid i had been. Isolating myself from reality and being obsessed with the virtual world was a routine for me daily for the past 1wk+.. There wasnt much hw anyway.. But in that time of praise and worship, God showed me reality as it is. Well, it was not about getting good grades for my Os, neither was it to be the best gamer. Instead, God showed me the way; fulfilling his plans and purposes for my life as a God-knows-what. Well, i really have no idea what God wants me to do in future but all i know is dat my life will not be wasted on games!!

God also reminded me of where my home is. It's neither on Earth let alone Singapore, nor the world. I live in God's kingdom. So does every single one of us. And every single thing we do now will be recorded in our "Life-file" in one of God's drawers! I'm sure none of you want to have a bad record. More importantly, we'd want to please God, our Father and Creator, won't we? So start "storing up treasures" in Paradise(Heaven) now!

If you have gone cold towards the Lord, (trust me, this isn't some religious lecture, but..) just come into the Lord's presence and sing your heart out for Him! But there's one thing dat must be in effect at all times. MEAN WHAT YOU SING! Don't pay lip service to God! He'd rather listen to his Heaven-surround-sound-system with songs from His CDs than see us mouth the lyrics out. (basically this is my sharing for Psalm 98 too! :D)

Psalm 98:4-8

4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn—
shout for joy before the LORD, the King.
7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,

Psalm 96

Sorry! One day late. But no one has posted this week! Bad, bad, bad.

Psalm 97 is mostly about praising God. Like verse 1-3, which makes up one of the old, but familiar songs that we've sung in church before. It's a universal song, since I sang it in Hebrew in Israel. Which was fun. Anyway.

Another part of the Psalm, verses 7-9 once again encourages us to worship God. This brings to mind the sermon we had last week. We should not just worship God on Sunday, and we also should not just worship God through singing songs.

I, personally, would like to praise God for my English results, which have all been quite, if not very good. And also, I feel that I will get a good result for my Maths TA.

There isn't anything much. I really don't know what else to reflect about.

But yeah, just continue praising God, and remember that He's been good to you, even if you haven't been good to Him lately.

Psalm 95

Though the bulk of this psalm is a song of praise unto God (verses 1–6), it still carries an important message. God is our shepherd and we, the flock under His care. When we go astray and hear God speaking into our lives, we must not harden our hearts like the stiff-necked Israelites who tested and tried Him long ago. That generation spent many years wandering aimlessly in the desert and never entered God's rest. Instead, we must listen to His Word and act accordingly. However, this is only possible if we have develop a lifestyle with passion for the presence of God:

Let's Prioritise Worship
- Acknowledge His Lordship

Let's Pursue Reconciliation
- Appreciate His Discipline

Let's Persist in Prayer
- Appropriate His Promises

Psalm 89

Whoa. I'm posting on a Saturday after all. Anyway, really, really long Psalm today. So I won't copy and paste it here.

Verse 1-2 Reminds me of a song. Yeah. Okay, we should remember God's love, especially in the light of Easter Sunday. Remember that God died for us. God died for us, mortals, perfect for imperfect. So we have to be grateful, and let our lives stand as a testimony. My life is a horrible testimony. Don't follow me. Seriously. I haven't spent an hour with God each day. I even missed a day for reading Psalms. That's never happened before. As least barring OBS and March Camp.

Verse 6 Who indeed compares with God? No one. It's a no brainer question. But if indeed no one compares with God, then why do we put all these things of the world on a higher priority than Him? That's a good question to ask ourselves. Has our play, or work, or anything else enslaved us? Or are we slaves to Jesus Christ?

Verse 15-16. Blessed are those who walk in your righteousness. If we walk right with God, we'll be perpetually in His presence, and nothing can ever bring us down. But most probably, we don't, and that may be the reason for you screwing up. As usual. And we should praise God throughout the day. It does lift your spirits.

Verse 21-24. Its a nice promise from God. And in times of adversity, we remember these verses, and we find that our adversity isn't that big anymore. God's bigger. These blessings were for David, and I believe that these blessings can come to us too! However, remember the question Pastor asked us last week. Do we want God's blessings or God himself? Which is more important. The gift or the giver?

Anyway, have a good sleep tonight.

Psalm 88

This psalm is another one written using lots of metaphors. The psalmist seems to be in deep trouble again. In the first two verses, he cries out to the Lord to save Him. He pleads with God to "turn [His] ear" to his cry. Thereafter, up till verse 9, he describes his situation, comparing his life with those of others about to die. Even his close friends view him as "repulsive".

Up to this point, there is no distinct feature which makes this psalm special as compared to the other psalms. However, it becomes more interesting from verse 10 - 12. The psalmist questions if God is glorified by people in circumstances similar to his, whether his love and faithfulness are declared in death and whether His marvelous deeds show up in darkness. By listing all these rhetorical questions, he indirectly gives God reasons as to why He should rescue him - so that He will be glorified, His love and faithfulness will shine through and His acts made known.

However, I think that God helps us and rescues us in times of trouble not for all these, but for his unending love for us. He died on the cross for us and redeemed us. God is crazy about you - not about being glorified. Therefore, we must honour Him by keeping Him first and seeking Him first - this is the most important.

My rhema word is verse 8

"I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints - but let them not return to folly."

Daniel ever shared with me that even though during service we are so spiritually charged up but the minute we are back home, everything seems back to square one. The struggles we had previously are still there. The things we know not to do we still do.

The thing is, I also face this predicament everyday of my life.

This might sound cliche but we need to "listen to the Word of God daily" and do what it says and that will keep us from "returning to folly".

Simpler said than done? My sentiments exactly. It is a big struggle to me too. The bible sometimes becomes a lullaby.

Maybe we should share with a brother whom we are comfortable to share with and we can keep each other accountable =)

12 Pay back into the laps of our neighbors seven times the reproach they have hurled at you, O Lord. 13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.

JoelA commented that it is very unkind to actually ask God to destroy "our neighbours" in such utterly brutal way, esp when we are told to be patient and kind.

I guess the historical context is an important factor in understanding the verses. The nations have invaded Jerusalem and reduced it to rubble.

The author understands that it is the consequence of their sinful ways when it says in vs 5 "How long, O Lord? Will you be angry forever?"

But the author also brings up the point that the destruction of Jerusalem, which belongs to God, will look bad on God and the non-believing nations will mock vs 10 " Where is their God?" And no man who blaspheme against the name of God will be let off lightly.

Mark 3:28-29 "I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. 29"But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit wil never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."

Hey guys! Sorry for the 1-day delay. Here is Psalm84.

The whole Psalm is about God being near, His presence being with the Psalmist and His works and blessings. The verse dat spoke to me most is this:

v11 "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless."

Basically this verse sums up the whole "theme" for this Psalm too.

You might start thinking(like i did), "How to be blameless..?" Well, it's not easy but defintely, the Lord's grace is sufficient for us! Remember, He is Jehovah Jireh, the One who provides!

We might fall and stumble at times. But the next best thing we can do is to forgive ourselves and then ask God for His forgiveness. If you don't even take the step in recognising your mistake/root of issue and forgive yourself, do you think God work(in your life)?

"... As far as the east is from the west, He has removed our transgressions from us." (I forget what verse le..)

Psalm 83

I realise that David's Psalms are more of a realistic plea to God for help... At least i understood what he is trying to say and there is some realism in it... but Asaph's Psalms are different in a way that they describe things in a metaphoric way...

This time Psalms 83 is a plea to God to take action and not stand back and watch... Ps 83:1 "O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still."

It describes the enemies and their plot: Ps 83:3-5 " With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you"

It also states how God handled them in the past with extra descriptions on how God will deal with them and to ask God to deliever His people from the enemies and to show the enemies who He is.. Ps 83:18 "Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD—that you alone are the Most High over all the earth."

Sorry for being late. But once again, I get a very short Psalm! ^^ Is it luck or what? Blessing? Haha.

Anyway.

Verse 3 and 4. Its meant for those people who are in need. This Psalm tells them that God will not forsake them and us in the hour of our need. God will be there for us when we need him. Like the story with the footprints. Yeah. So even when we're in the pits, think about God. His unfailing love will save us. Look for the in the most unlikely of situations. =)

Verse 6 and 7 seems to be that sometimes, even when we may believe that we're Christians, and that we're Sons of God, its possible that we are not. Lets check ourselves. Did we truly mean it when we committed ourselves to Him? Do our actions reflect Him in our lives? I think that somewhere in the New Testament it says that we can 'lose' our salvation, especially when it never ever happened.

Finally, verse 8. As the Sons of God, the nations are our inheritance. Lets not be afraid to ask God, and to face the power of the Devil. Jesus has killed death when he rose from the dead! So lets not be afraid. =))

Asaph, leader of one of David's Levitical choirs, is warning his people not to repeat Israel's sins of the past, grumbling and resenting the provision of God despite God's saving acts (parting of Red Sea, water from rocks, heavenly manna) and marvelously persistent grace.

The psalm often mentioned things like "we will not hide them from our children, we will tell the next generation, teach their children so the next generation will know, even the children yet unborn.." This is evident that people are forgetful, in the past as well as the NOW.

Remember that God takes delight in our thanks offering! In a nutshell, remember to always be thankful to God! Start today!

But just a verse i found interesting.
v12. Pay back into the laps of our neighbors seven times the reproach they have hurled at you, O Lord.

The whole psalm was about asking God to be angry with the people against him, and the psalmist actually asked God to "Pay back into the laps of our neighbors seven times the reproach".

But abit confusing.. v13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.

Does it mean only if God poured out his wrath then we your people will praise you forever. But that does not seem to be the case. Enlighten me. xD

But anw, v12 actually reminded me of the atheists in my class, 1 of the reasons y i posted the post below, and that people actually think being atheist is cool.. Zz

okay... i think i'm going to summarise this Psalm again cos its all so storylike...

v7: "You alone are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?" Dont mess with God...

Actually what this Psalm is talking abt is about the wrath of God... When God is fighting on Israel's side against all the enemies... No one can stand against God...God is feared by even the kings of the earth and so all respect should be given to him...

Hey family! I just did my 1hr with praise/worship and my reading up on Psalm77. Finally i'm doing things right.. :D Hope to hear that you guys are doing it(spending time with God when you fast. why? refer to Adrian's post on sanctification week. :D) too!

At first i read Psalm77 and couldnt quite get the "essence" of it or at least whatever that would speak to me. I thought it was just another "ordinary" Psalm... Well, at least that was what i thought in the morning at 6.15.. hahaha.. but as i red it again jus now, God gave me this particular verse.

v19 "Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen."

Then I just thought of what Ps Melvyn shared ytd regarding the sets of footprints on the beach and that set of footprints were God's and not mine thing. But i felt that it didn't really connect with the verse. So i continued meditating and was led to this question.

"Am I invisible or visible to you?"

Then I knew what He meant. If you read the earlier half of Psalm77, you'll see that he's "lamenting" again.. Now look at v11-12, "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on your works and consider all your mighty deeds."

In the past, I was quite "faithful". As in, my faith was more or less bigger than my present faith. And i can rmb the times when His hand was guiding me and working in my life. There was also this one time when i had a class bbq(sec2 EOY after exams) and it was raining! so i decided to gather a few of us(2 christians and 2 non-christians..) and we prayed for the rain to stop. Not long after, like 5-10mins, the rain lightened and stopped! i can rmb that one clearly cos it was really a WOW for me. hahaha. But gradually i started to lose my faith through times of setbacks, stress from work etc.

As i read v19, i realised that the fact i've been neglecting the Holy Spirit and He's conviction was due to me thinking that God was invisible and not being there. and although i knew quite well myself that God will always be there, sometimes i used his "invisiblity" as an excuse to do the things i wanted, like playing xtra hrs of com and not revising or doing my hw...

But in actual fact, we should always depend on God all the time! That was also what Asaph was missing out at the start but he was somehow enlightened by looking back at his "good'ol days".

Is God invisible in your life? Start seeing God everyday as you're doing your 1hr! If not, your visibility as a Christian will slowly fade away... Scary right? xD Don't worry, as long as you're truthful and honest b4 Him, you'll do just fine. :D

God vs Science

A science professor begins his school year with a lecture to the students,'Let me explain the problem science has with religion.' The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his newstudents to stand.

'You're a Christian, aren't you, son?''

Yes sir,' the student says.

So you believe in God?'

'Absolutely.''Is God good?''

Sure! God's good.''

Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?''
Yes.''
Are you good or evil?'
'The Bible says I' m evil.'

The professor grins knowingly. 'Aha! The Bible!' He considers for a moment.'Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?''

Yes sir, I would.''

So you're good...!''

I wouldn't say that.''But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could.Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't.'

The student does not answer, so the professor continues. 'He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed toJesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?'

The student remains silent.

'No, you can't, can you?' the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.

Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?''

Er...yes,' the student says.

'Is Satan good?'

The studen t doesn't hesitate on this one. 'No.' '

Then where does Satan come from?'

The student falters. 'From God''

That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?''

Yes, sir.''

Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything, correct?''

Yes.''

So who created evil?' The professor continued, 'If God created everything,then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil.'

Again, the student has no answer. 'Is there sickness? Immorality?Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?'

The student squirms on his feet. 'Yes.''

So who created them?'

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question.'Who created them?' There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized.'Tell me,' he continues onto another student. 'Do you believe in JesusChrist, son?'

The student's voice betrays him and cracks. 'Yes, professor, I do.'

The old man stops pacing. 'Science says you have five senses you use toidentify and observe the world around you.Have you ever seen Jesus?

''No sir. I've never seen Him.

''Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?'

'No, sir, I have not.'

'Have you ever felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelt your Jesus?Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter?'

'Yet you still believe in him?'

'According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol,science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?'

'Nothing,' the student replies. 'I only have my faith.'

'Yes, faith,' the professor repeats. 'And that is the problem science haswith God. There is no evidence, only faith.

'The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of His own.

'Professor, is there such thing as heat?'

'Yes,' the professor replies. 'There's heat.'

'And is there such a thing as cold?'

'Yes, son, there's cold too.'

'No sir, there isn't.'

The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The roomsuddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain. 'You can havelots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything called 'cold'. Wecan hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go anyfurther after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458 degrees.'

'Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmitsenergy, and heat is what makes a bod y or matter have or transmit energy.Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold.Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not theopposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

'Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.

'What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?'

'Yes,' the professor replies without hesitation. 'What is night if it isn't darkness?'

'You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence ofsomething. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashinglight, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it?

That's the meaning we use to define the word.'

'In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

'The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester.

It's a short psalm again. I sure have the best of luck. Haha. Out of week of fairly long psalms, I get the shortest. Once again, I apologize for being late. whoops.

1 We give thanks to you, O God,
we give thanks, for your Name is near;
men tell of your wonderful deeds.

2 You say, "I choose the appointed time;
it is I who judge uprightly.

3 When the earth and all its people quake,
it is I who hold its pillars firm.

4 To the arrogant I say, 'Boast no more,'
and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns.

5 Do not lift your horns against heaven;
do not speak with outstretched neck.' "

6 No one from the east or the west
or from the desert can exalt a man.

7 But it is God who judges:
He brings one down, he exalts another.

8 In the hand of the LORD is a cup
full of foaming wine mixed with spices;
he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth

First off, Verse 1. It says give thanks. As now is the one week break, I'm sure that we have lots to thank God about the term that we just finished. And also about whatever that we've managed to accomplish this week. Most importantly though, we have to thank Him for dying for us, and forgiving our sin. Don't ever take that for granted.

Verses 5-7, for me, actually links back to verse 1. That we should credit our successes to God, and not bask in our own glory, because it is not ours, but God's. He has enabled us to get good results, have good friendships, and so on. Because if we become proud, and exalt ourselves, then God will bring us low. So therefore, thank God! =) For me, I'll thank God for my Math, Bio and English CT results. To God be the glory. =)

Something else. We should not "lift our horns up against heaven". This would be rebelliousness, which is obviously something we should not do. But something more subtle. We might sometimes blame God if we don't do well in our work and relationships. Especially if we can't see God in the situation. But we must remember that God is always there, whether we can see Him or not. So we must have faith. Refer to today's sermon! I've been feeling sort of spent, and I really want to get my spiritual life back on track.

Anyway, Term 2 is started. Buckle in your seat belts. It's gonna be a hell of a ride.

We've now covered Book I and II and this psalm marks the start of Book III. Time really flies and soon I will be having my 3+ month vacation!

Many times I have wondered why those who do "bad" things get away unpunished and seem to lead better lives without much worries. Like the psalmist, I had "envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked (v3)." However, in v17, the psalmist began to understand why God allowed all these to happen by observing from the view point of eternity. Therefore, if you are discouraged and disheartened at this moment, hang on to God's promises. Persevere, for a breakthrough might be just around the corner.

Let us proclaim the following verses: "Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever (v25-26)." Indeed our physical self is weak but God is strong.

To end off, I will post the lyrics of a beautiful song based on verses 25 and 26 by Streams of Praise. If you are not doing so well in Chinese language in school, why not pick up some songs by Streams of Praise. Your Chinese grades may just improve and you can praise God in two languages!

Ahh so ps for the so-super-very late post for Psalm70! okay shant talk so much. Here's Psalm70.

As you can see for yourself, Psalm70 is super short. *yet it took me 3 days to post my reflections..* But there is more than meets the eye... woah so cheam rite? but the ting is, the "thing" is that you'll be able to see for yourself that there are 4 times David "rushed" the Lord to come and save/rescue/help him.

v1 "Hasten... O Lord, come quickly to help me.."
v5 ".... come quickly to me, O God. ... O Lord, do not delay."

Why is David so "impatient"? the minute he got problem ar, look to God. "tolong tolong ar, help me ar.." (modern generation of David) The thing is, are you like him? Now, im not asking that you ask God to come to you, but you go to Him instead. And you go to Him fast. Whenever your probs or any issue in life crop up, do you seek first the help of the world or of God? Even when your friends do offer you advice on how to deal with certain issues, do you think about it from a spiritual perspective or from a worldy one?

Why David turned to God first was most likely because he knew that the one he's seeking will not fail him. The below verses demonstrates that.

Psalm 70:2 "May those who seek my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace."

Psalm 71:24b "for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion."

So won't you start depending and relying on God in EVERYTHING? Why not? IF you have been having a great 1hr with Him everyday, im sure you'd, won't you? :D For thus far has the Lord helped us!

Matthew 6:33-34 "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Sanctification Week 20-22 March (Thu-Fri) @ Max Pavilion

Very soon the 40-day fast from computer, TV, recess/lunch/dinner will come to an end. Finally I don't have to watch my time to make sure I gobble adequate amount of brunch before 11am. Otherwise it will be a good 6hrs before I can eat again. Oops! Abit like cheating in my fasting! Haha..

Why the 40 days fast? It is not "because Pastor say so and I can't say no otherwise my boys will ask why and I will have no reply." The 40-day fast is to prepare us for Sanctification Week. Instead of eating, we use the time to draw closer to God; chit chat with Him, ask Him to help us in our daily struggles. When we set aside time just to be with God daily, His presence will come and envelope us entirely and we feel very rested. Sadly this kind of restedness is often only felt during church/encounter camps. Why?

That's because normally we are too caught up with work to wait upon Him. When we don't spend time with God on a daily basis, we find it difficult to come into His presence. Even the short 30mins worship during Sunday service may not be enough to usher us into His presence. There is no quick fix. Are you yearning for that kind of restedness? If yes, start preparing now!

Oops I'm late for my posting again! Admittedly, the monotony of posting has bored me as with alot of us, evident in the diminishing number of 'survivors'.. haha.. Just like our walk with God. Sometimes the monotony of church-going, worshiping and praying makes us wonder what good is there in all of these. Maybe that's why God sets us obstacles along our way to help us see the good in having God by our side when we walk through dark valleys.

Proclaim Ps 71 vs20-21. "Though you made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honour and comfort me once again."

Psalm 69

Looks like David is in trouble once again... He describes it as he is sinking into the ground and the deep waters overwhelm him... (v2-3) But then he says this in v5: "You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you." He is begging God to tell him why he is in such distress and probably david is linking this to his sins... Reading on, David shares with God about what i happening and begs God to come and rescue him... And at the end, David ends with praising God again(v34-36)...

Psalm 68

Sorry people, I'm a day late again. And I'm going to be off at camp for the next few days until wednesday, so I'm a bit unhappy. After, more than half my hols will be burned at this camp. But at least it'll be good exercise. O.o

On to today's psalm. It's really long, so I won't copy it here.

Verse 2-3

This verse says that the wicked will perish before God. So we should examine ourselves, and confess our sin to God, so that he may forgive us.

Verse 19

This verse says that God will daily bear our burdens. So whatever unhappiness or problems that we have, we should always commit it to God, for he will be able to help us. For me, right now, I've got my CCA camp hanging over my head.

Verse 34-35

This verse is a proclamation of God's awesome power. He has the power to help us overcome our sin and problems, and he has the power to punish us should be choose not to obey him, so we shouldn't treat God flippantly.

David is in trouble again but it is not due to any wrongdoing on his part. Although he seems helpless, he quickly lets on that God will definitely rescue him and retaliate on his behalf. What more, it will draw people to Christ! But how.....

Sometimes we also get into trouble although it is not due to any wrongdoing on our part. Sometimes it could even be due to our Christian teachings and values. But resolve to stand firm in his Word and not compromise to the World, because God will definitely rescue us. And when we rise from ashes to victory in a humanly impossible fashion, it will draw people to Christ! vs9 "All mankind will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done."

When we are in our PITS, it's when God is in his PEAK! Let go and let God take the wheel!

Hey family! so sorry for the super delayed sharing on Psalm63. Everytime i got time i jus forget to post.. -_- Well anyway, here's Psalm63's sharing.

As I looked through the psalm again, i realised that David was in the desert and he was looking back at the times when he was in "the sanctuary". And he started to think about the great times he had spent being in His Presence and all the way down he continued to praise the Lord.

As i read verses 2 to 8, i started to relate these verses to our lives. Its like, the process of our everyday life. But for me it looked more like Sunday.. v4-5 "I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you."

Doesn't it look like sunday service to you?? First with praise and worship, then SP's sermon(spiritual food), then finally altar call with song. Then at night I will rmb church and Him. But i wonder, am i always like that? Unfortunately, im not. Through the week, im bound to have stumbled a few times. i also won't remember Him b4 i go to sleep.. i would only tink about work, friends at sch etc.

So is your life like this? Not recognising God wherever you are, whatever you're doing, whenever possible? Well, then start to spend this 1hr-a-day with God asap if you have not! If you have some other burdens in your life, just talk to God about it. Its not a must to follow the "agenda". Time with God was never an agenda anyway. And you'll start to feel and know His Presence wherever you are, whatever you're doing and whenever it is!

Doing so, you will begin to seek Him earnestly, thirst for Him and long for Him "in a dry and weary land where there is no water." with a heart that's God's No.1 fan!

A minister passing through his church
in the middle of the day,

Decided to pause by the altar
and see who had come to pray.

Just then the back door opened,
a man came down the aisle,

The minister frowned as he saw
the man hadn't shaved in a while.

His shirt was kinda shabby
and his coat was worn and frayed,
the man knelt, he bowed his head,
then rose and walked away.

In the days that followed,
each noon time came this chap,
each time he knelt just for a moment,
a lunch pail in his lap.

Well, the minister's suspicions grew,
with robbery a main fear,
He decided to stop the man and ask him,
"What are you doing here?"

The old man said, he worked down the road.
Lunch was half an hour.
Lunchtime was his prayer time,
for finding strength and power.

"I stay only moments, see,
because the factory is so far away;
as I kneel here talking to the Lord,
this is kinda what I say:

"I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD,
HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN,
SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHER'S FRIENDSHIP
AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN.

The minister feeling foolish,

and met with Jesus there.

As the tears flowed, in his heart,

His smiles, a joy contagious.
Changed people, were his reward.

The head nurse couldn't understand
why Jim was so glad,
when no flowers, calls or cards came,
not a visitor he had.

The minister stayed by his bed,
he voiced the nurse's concern:

No friends came to show they cared.
He had nowhere to turn.

Looking surprised, old Jim spoke up
and with a winsome smile;
"the nurse is wrong, she couldn't know,

Psalm 62

Quiet Acceptance of His Covering:
Ps 62:1-2 "My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken."

The 1 hour prayer everyday is not all about praying the same things but it's about spending time with God by talking to Him about events that happened today... In short, it's about keeping Him company..

Agressive Assertion of His Control:
Ps 62:5-6 "Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken."

A way to counter frustration and stress: Speak to yourself before yourself speaks to you!
Speak what? Speak the Word of God, Listen and find rest in Him.

Unwavering Acknowledgement of His Character:
Ps 62:11-12 "One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done."

Well though my posting is about today's sermon, i feel that the sermon gives a clearer view on what is rest in God.. It may be in the form of praying, lamenting to Him or sleeping in His presence. So i'll just end off with my key verse: Ps 62:1 "My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him." Only in God, we can find rest and only through Him we have salvation... Remember: Rest in God!

Okay... My psalm is again very short. But next week, it'll be much longer. Is that good or bad? Depends on how I look at it.

1 My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from him.

2 He alone is my rock and my salvation;

One of the verses that speaks to me is verse 2. In verse two it says that we call to God as our heart grow faint, either from the attacks of the world or our inability. This is because God's ways are higher than ours, and therefore we should always seek him first, and do what the Bible tells us to do, not what we think is right, for our human wisdom and intelligence is very fallible. So basically, we have to involve God in all our decision, and not just stick Him on a pedestal to call for help when we need it.

Another verse is verse 4. Where is says that we long to dwell in God's tent forever, and hide in the shadow of His wings. It tells us, like pastor did just today, that we should long for His presence, and should remain in it. Therefore, spend your one hour with God!

Finally, verse 7 and 8. Whereas this verse says that he will be enthroned in God's presence, we should enthrone God in our lives, and we should not shortchange Him.

Psalm 60

This psalm shares with us how helpless we are without God. The first three verses describe the wrath of God. The punishment of sin is described as "wine that makes us stagger". However, for those who fear Him, God has flown an unfurled banner to look to for courage! When we cry out to God, He will use us in different ways like how he uses Gilead, Manasseh, Ephraim, Judah, Moab, Edom and Philistia. He will also lead us back to His sanctuary and will bring our enemies to defeat, a change from the worthless human help which we might be seeking. Therefore, we must realise that we are utterly helpless without God, but can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. The last two verses from The Message translation sums it up:

"Give us help for the hard task;
human help is worthless.
In God we'll do our very best;
he'll flatten the opposition for good."

I find verse 11 particularly intriguing. David asked God not to kill his enemies because his people would soon forget about the victories.

On reflection, I realise that I am rather forgetful too. I am easily distracted by the problems of the moment. That's why it's important for me to set aside time for God every day to give thanks to him for his past blessings, for his present help and for his future promises.

Hi family! sorry wasnt able to share ytd cos as usual, too many tings to do. and i had to use my 1hr time with God to finish up my sch work. so im also guilty of not spending time with God regularly. xD

Well, anyway, here is Psalm56. i mean my sharing.

v5-6 "All day long they twist my words; they are always plotting to harm me. They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, eager to take my life."

Does not this sound familiar to you? For those of us who tried sharing Christ with our friends should feel in one way or another, similar to the above verse.

There's always this "distractor" that will come by to keep your friend fromlistening to you share Christ. What's worse is ppl who sit beside your friend and say things that are contradicting whatever you are sharing with him! And sometimes you just feel like giving him one tight slap or shouting right into his face to GET LOST! Well, that's just what i feel like doing sometimes. -_-

But look at v13 "For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that i may walk before God in the light of life." If i was to give that guy a piece of my mind, i would have scared away both my friend and the "distractor". Makes sense?

Instead, present your thank offerings to God(v12) and soon you'll see that your "enemies will turn back when I(you) call for help." Not just that the enemies will run away from you when u call to God for help, even the "distractors" will come to help you too! Buts it is also a good sign if these ppl come to you for help! I jus cant help but imagine the awesomeness of that..

All talk and no work makes Daniel a fat boy. So i encourage all of us(especially those in sol2) to continue serving the Lord by serving our friends. Well, to be leaders, we first have to be servants. :D

Once out of church, we are in the World again where the Word of God is easily drowned by our Worldly pleasures, depending on which frequency we are tuning to.

Like being "in the midst of lions; we lie among ravenous beasts" we are constantly bombarded by temptations. Once hooked, it's like being dragged to the slaughterhouse to the point of no return. Like what Joel shared, I have at times succumb to TV and fast grudgingly.

Thankfully God knows we are weak and when left on our own, we are only capable of vices. Whenever we come to Him with a broken spirit and a contrite heart, he forgives! "For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies"

My prayer is that whatever we do, may God "Be exalted, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth."

Psalm 55

It seems that David is in anguish again... He has been betrayed by his "companion"... Ps 55:20 "My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant."

To be betrayed by someone you trusted is even more painful than being humiliated by your enemy... Even Daivid agrees: Ps55:12-14 "If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God."

When even your most trusted companion has betrayed you, who can you trust? David cries to God to take vengeance for him... And he ends by telling us the best solution: Cast your cares onto the Lord. Ps55:22 "Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall."

So when there is a point of your life when you feel that you have been betrayed and humiliated by your closest friends and cannot trust anyone anymore, remember God is always waiting for you to cast all your burdens onto Him... He'll take the necessary action needed... He's the only one that really can be trusted...

Psalm 54!

It's a very short psalm. Again!

1 Save me, O God, by your name;
vindicate me by your might.

2 Hear my prayer, O God;
listen to the words of my mouth.

3 Strangers are attacking me;
ruthless men seek my life—
men without regard for God.

4 Surely God is my help;
the Lord is the one who sustains me.

5 Let evil recoil on those who slander me;
in your faithfulness destroy them.

6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you;
I will praise your name, O LORD,
for it is good.

7 For he has delivered me from all my troubles,
and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

The first verse speaks to me as it says that God will save us from our sins by the power of His name, and He will vindicate us by His might. This week, I haven't really kept to my promises, its quite difficult. The one hour I spend with God isn't one straight hour, although I haven't played any comp games and I have successfully fasted so far from Star Wars. Which is what I have decided to fast from. Not to mention that I've been doing quite a few other wrong things this week. So I claim this verse that God has forgiven me and given me yet another chance, and will save me from my sins.

Similarly, verse 4 tells me that when the going is tough, and I find myself unable to continue on my own, God will give me the strength and will sustain me through my difficulties.

So don't give up, and depend on God, for He won't let you down!

In this Psalm God seemed to be talking directly to us instead of through the Psalmists, telling us how great and mighty and omnipotent He is. He has everything he needs (he is the Creator of all things remember?) Yet in all his Majesty, there is one thing God desires that only we can give.

vs 14 "Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you and you will honour me."

Just like prophet Hosea who loved his wife despite her prostituting herself unrepentantly, God loves us to a fault. He truly desires to spend time with us and hear our appreciation and compliments of all he has done for us.

In this 40days fast, as we set aside 1hr for God, thank him DAILY for one thing he has done for you! And God promises to answer you whenever you call!

Hi family! sorry post one day later ar.. hope u guys dun mind. :D

So with Psalm49...

v7-8. "No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him- the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough- that he should live on forever and not see decay."

Well, this is a verse which clearly measures the cost that Christ had to pay for us. In fact, it's so great and expensive that it cannot be measured. Because it means dying terribly on the cross for people whom you don't know, at all, but yet love.

God knows that no man can ever do that because he knows our hearts. We tremble at the sight of the Cross, let alone get hung on it. LOVE was what Jesus died for and is still dying for.

Remember that each time we sin, its the act of nailing him to the cross once again. He wants to clear our lives of sin, therefore facing the ordeal over and over again. And how can we forget that it was all for us?

v20. "A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts that perish."

Well... most of the verses in this Psalm are part of a story describing God's wonder n power n glory n many other powerful descriptions... so i have nothing much to relate to... but this verse is sort of the most logical : v 14 "For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end."

So there's no need to fear!!!! continue to praise Him!!!

Psalms 47

Okay. Today's psalm is really, really short.

So well, let's start with the first verse. I feel that the verse where it tells us to clap our hands, and shout to God with cries of joy, tells us to look at our lives, and praise God for what he has done for us. So, this week, I was able to keep up with my homework, and spam Kinship II in three days. Thank God for helping me to balance my time. I still feel quite guilty. Probably should have studied more, but at least, I'm not falling behind.

Verse 4 tells us that God has chosen our inheritance for us. To me, this means that God has a plan for us, and we should follow this plan. Because God knows what is best for us. Let's try not think about going our own way, or making excuses, or just simply giving up. We'll have to trust in God. And grow closer to Him. I know that I haven't really been spending as much time with God as I did in January, but I'll have to make god on that.

Verse 6 is just a repeat of the first verse, but reminds of the song Forever.

Okay. Let's not give up and continue to read our psalms daily. I know it's difficult, but that's what God wants us to do.

Psalm 46

I won't have a chance tomorrow to use the computer, so I thought I'd better share this in advance so I'm still in the race :)

So anyway, the impression I got after reading tomorrow's Psalm 46 is that it's describing the end times which the book of Revelations talks about. For example, "the mountains fall into the heart of the sea" (v2), "its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging" (v3) and "nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts" (v6). The message of this Psalm is that despite all this chaos, we should "be still, and know that [He] [is] God" (v10). Very similar to that of today's psalm - both talk about the return of the king (Jesus).

That's all for now. By the way, this Sunday Pastor Khong will be giving a sermon on today's Psalm 45, entitled "The King and I". I guess we can all look forward to it!

Psalm 45

This psalm is a wedding song and it's a rather interesting coincidence since today is Valentine's day.
When I read this psalm in the morning, I was quite surprised because the mood was significantly different from the previous psalms. The psalm describes a joyous occasion and the phrases used give us a glimpse of the splendor of this event.

If I may use the poetic tools that Adrian mentioned earlier, the whole psalm seems to be emblematic metaphorical. It uses the wedding to symbolise our future relationship with God. Jesus is the bridegroom who will return and the Church, of which we are a part of, is his bride.

While waiting for the bridegroom, the bride needs to prepare herself (by dressing up in nice, clean clothes etc). Similarly, as we await the second coming of Jesus, we need to prepare ourselves for him. The way to do this is to lead a holy life that is pleasing to God. But it's not easy to do that. So we need to pray and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance to discern what is right before God.

Sharing of Psalm 42 & 43

Psalm 42 vs 5, vs 11 and Psalm 43 vs 5 are exactly the same, repeated 3 times!

The Psalmist could be trying to emphasise a point.
"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour and my God!

He talks to his soul as if it is another person who he has no control over. He doesn't want to feel downcast but he can't help it and it could be the difficulties he is facing at present. Despite that he resolved to put his hope in God and PRAISE HIM!

There are many things out of our control but the one thing we can do is to CHOOSE to use our mouth to sing praises to God in whatever situations we are in. We can CHOOSE to put our hope in God who is forever faithful and always there for us! What is your choice?

It's been more than a month since we started sharing our personal insights on this blog. Barely halfway through (150 psalms in all!) but somehow we are losing the momentum! I guess this is not merely a test of our determination to read a psalm a day but also a "survival of the fittest" of sorts to see who will ultimately remain faithfully sharing as scheduled.

Psalm 34

I was supposed to share this 3 days ago but haven't had the time to do it yet... until now. Sorry. Better late than never (like what En Rong said).

Psalm 34 was written by David when he pretended to be insane so that Abimelech would let him leave. David must have been feeling quite flustered because Abimelech was holding him back. However, he still found ways and means to praise the Lord. For example, he wrote the psalm as an acrostic poem, the verses of which begin with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. He probably did this because he was too flustered to think clearly and he needed a structure to adhere to. The psalm also starts by praising God - David never fails to do this, no matter how many troubles he might be facing at the time of writing. I think we can learn from David on this point - we should be always thankful, even when it's raining. Also, the psalm teaches us to fear the Lord - when we fear Him, He will bless, protect and redeem us.

Psalm 35

Okay.. Since today's psalm is SO LONG. I won't type/copy it out... And I won't take up too much or your time...

Okay. here we go.

Verse 4 - I think that verse 4 tells us that even as our enemies plot against us, and try to bring us down, God is still with us in this sort of situation, and he will defend us from our enemies. So this would be a good verse if you are feeling embattled by the attacks of the evil one.

Verse 10 - Tells us that God will rescue us in times of need. It also tells us that God has a heart for the poor and needy, and therefore we should too...

Verse 18 - It's just a verse that shows how much we should praise God. That we should praise Him in whatever situation we might be...

Verse 28 - Similar to the verse up there. Also that we should show others how good God has been to us in our lives...

I'm supposed to share about Psalm 32 on Friday, so I guess I'm 2 days late. Anyway I think the verse that caught my eye was verse 7 coz it reminded me of the following song.

You are my hiding place,
You always fill my heart
with songs of deliverance.
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

I will trust in You.
Let the weak say I am strong
in the strength of my Lord.
I will trust in You.

As I've shared today, I have lotsa tutorials, project research, lab reports to do. I even lost my voice!

In the midst of all this, one thing that I can choose to do is to trust in God, to claim my strength in Him.

I shall end off with the following verses:
"The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic." (Psalm 29:4) and "The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace." (Psalm 29:11).

I believe that God will grant me peace so that I can have a good rest every night!

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

We are often deceived that we are never good enough for God. A moment we confess our sin with great remorse, another moment we are back at the it again. We don't know how to face God and thus we try to avoid him and gradually we backslide!

However, verse 5 is a constant reminder that even though our fears and failings may cause God great displeasure, it will lasts only a moment. Rather, God is constantly looking for opportunities to shower his favour upon us, and it is for our lifetime..

God never rejects us, we reject ourselves. So stop straying, come and confide in him for he understands!

Hohoho(Xmas over le la).. im so honoured to post the 100th post. happy 100th post? haha. anyway im here to share on Psalm29! aiya i wont type out the chapter cos i noe u all hav a Bible(if not den use an online Bible now! for more info ask john or joelL) and also now abit late(a man without his beauty sleep is a beast!)... yea.

Read v3-8. Do you see any trend? Well i do. Eg. v4-5 "The voice of the Lord s powerful;the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon." It always starts with the voice of the Lord..; the voice of the Lord... and ends with The Lord... Why did he write like dat? I thought that the Lord might want us to place Him in the specific areas in our lives that need His miraculous and powerful touch. Yes, the voice is there. But why not invite the speaker himself?

I was then brought to v9-11 "The voice of the Lord twists the oaksand strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!" The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; he Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace."

I feel that David wrote this to demonstrate the people's fear of the Lord. They feared the Lord when they cried, "Glory!" Do we have the fear of the Lord in our hearts? Do we recognise that He is Lord over every area in our lives? One way to see if you have the fear of the Lord. Its simple. If you do not have the peace of God's love in our lives and the strength to fight for Him(v11), then you don't have the fear of the Lord.

For me, I have to put Him first in the area of my time- studies and play, my circle of friends and my responsibility as an EXCO councillor. So when i face probs in these areas, i know i have to look for JESUS!

Like other Psalms, it starts off as a plea to God... But this plea is not to complain but instead it is like asking God to hear his cry for help as without God, he would have stumbled long time ago... It describes what those who do evil will receive in return and ends in praise to the Lord.

Verse 7 and 8 are as other verses, describe who God is..."The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song." By trusting in God, by having faith in him, we are helped. And to give thanks to Him can be in the form of Worship or Praise...

Okay, here I go again! I find that the first three verses are very meaningful as it tells us that we must surrender to God our troubles, our successes, our failures, and all we are. We are to 'lift up my soul' to him. God won't let us be put to shame or let our enemies triumph over us if we follow him whole-heartedly. If we put our hope in him, God will protect and look out for us.

In verse 4, the psalmist asks God to show him His ways. I think that this should be what we should do to, that we should ask God to show us His perfect ways, and to teach us His paths. Because He always knows what is best for us.

Verse 10 is somewhat parallel to the first few verses in which it says that all the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful, for those who keep the demands of His covenant. So yeah... We gotta follow God faithfully. No compromises

And what is God's promise for us if we take up our cross and follow Him? We will spend our days in prosperity - it may and may not be physical, and that our descendants will inherit the land. So our actions now can affect our children's future. So we better be careful of what we do!

So, yeah. That's about it.

My reflections on this Psalm:

This psalm, like many others, starts off by praising God in saying that He created the earth and everything in it. Because of His holiness, only those with clean hands and a pure heart may enter His presence. God will also bless those who actively seek Him out. Today, we should search our hearts. Only if we have a blameless heart can we have intimacy with God.

Finally, the psalm ends, again by glorifying the Lord. Reminds me of two songs, Glory (the song which goes "lift up your hands, open the doors, let the king of glory come in and forever be our God") and Open Up the Gates :)

Psalm 21

This psalm was proably a victory song sung by David after one of his battles.

Verse 1 says "O LORD, the king rejoices in your strength. How great is his joy in the victories you give!"

David knew that his victories were not due to his own strength but because he trusted in God's strength. Therefore, David praised and gave thanks to God.

We too should have a grateful heart, remembering that God is our source of blessings and giving Him the glory He deserves. We should be ALWAYS THANKFUL.

Verse 2 says "You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips."

God is our Dream Giver. If you ask Him, He will help you to achieve your dream.

Psalm 18 (its finally here! the long awaited long-verse)

yo guys! okay actually as i read psalm 18 i was quite... surprised. cos the writing style suddenly become so... lengthy. its like the wrath of God was described until an extent like in v8-13. "Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. ..." reminds u of some villain in a fairytale rite... But the reason why David wrote it this way was to show God's wrath upon his enemies eg. Saul.

But what spoke to me most was the faith that David had in God. Look at v.31.
"For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God?"

There were times in which i was struggling with probs in sch, be it homework, frens or my responsibility as a "senior" councillor and i would get so frustrated dat i will suddenly "proclaim", "YOU ARE GOD AND I SURRENDER THEM TO YOU!!" The funny ting is after i jus "shouted" dat in my heart, it felt as thou my sch bag was 2kg everyday. ok la dat was lame. not so exaggerating la but seriously i felt very free. But of cos i noe dat althou i surrender them to the Lord doesnt mean i sit down shake leg. cos it has always been and will always be 100% God and 100% man. v.32 says so. why would He still "arm me with strength" if He is going to do all the work for me?

Well for David, i think he said it with his WHOLE heart cos he continued saying alot alot abt the goodness of God. And truly, if our God is our Lord, there is nothing we can't overcome with Him.
If God is with us, who can be against us?

Today in SOL2, Ps Evelyn said dat althou sometimes we pray, the devil can still counter our words if they are made up by our own intellect. He will say "Aha! those words are u made up one. So how can u be sure that God will save you? You think u so clever can ask God to appear our of nowhere and help u ar? dun kidd urself la.." (bad english rite..? his english is liddat.. so cant blame him. xD)

But when you start using God's word against the evil one, he wont be able to find any "loophole" to counter-attack you. Remember that God's word is sharper than any other 2-edged sword. so if ur own words are an example of a 2-edged sword, you know what to do. haha. dats why memorising key verses is so important.

Therefore, I shall keep my life as close as possible to God's Word because "...his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him." (v.30)

Finally, I shall end off with v.50 "He gives his king great victories; he shows his unfailing kindness to his anointed; to David and his descendants forever."

We can put on a false front to look holy and Christiansy when we attend church every Sunday. But we should know we can never deceive God. Rather than resist and stray away from God, why not confess our weakness in our daily battle against sins, ask God for strength and seek refuge in the shadow of his wings!

Dear God I pray that you would "forgive my hidden faults and keep your servant also from willful sins... May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight.." Psalm 19:12-14

First glance: nothing different, same crying and pleading in the same dangerous situation which the Psalmist seemed to always put himself into, as if he had intended it.

But we are NOT reading the bible. We are waiting for the Lord to speak to us. So I asked God what was the word for me?

v3b: I have resolved that my mouth will not sin...

A familiar proverb came to my mind.(forgot which one)
"A soft answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger"

God used this to teach me how to teach when I first started teaching. Not just teaching in school but also teaching in SUNDAY SCHOOL.. So for the young brats who graduated from P6 Barnabas, NOW you know how hard it was for me back then.. to withhold my wrath and put on the friendliest side of me.. haha..

Today, resolve to always watch what comes from your lips and remind (not judge) one another when we make a slip of the tongue! Even words like "u so gay" can cause somebody to reflect on it a long time after you have said it. They will think "I really gay meh?" and Satan will say "Definitely, so-and-so said it before but you thought he was joking"

Words can either MAKE or BREAK a person, it's our choice!

Psalm 16

Ps 16:8-9

"I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure."

Do we always put the Lord first in everything? Do we always set him before us? By saying that God is in your right hand can also mean that with His strength in us we'll not be shaken...
Therefore... with God so close to us there would be joy and praises would come out of our mouth... With God's covering over us, we would be at peace and rest well for our trust is in him and he'll never fail us...

So by putting God first, look at the advantages!!!

hmm... first time posting on this blog and all this that im writing is what i feel about the psalm for today
so hope your won't mind if your do no agree with me >.<

PSALM 14

The fool says in his heart,
"there is no god"
they are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven
on the sons of men
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God

All have turned aside,
they have together become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.

here verse 1 tells us that what everyone around you say or do might not glorify God. Continued by verses 2-3, it is more of telling us that these people influences you and in the long run, you would somehow start to believe or follow what these people say and do.
well these people can be anyone. It can be your neighbours,your friends even your family members!

in verse 4, it shows that even though you are a believer, the influence around you is unavoidable!
terrible right? so what are we suppose to do?

from verses5-7, it just simplify means to ask God for help.
seek him and ask for guidance for he is one who will be your refuge.

well always remember this verse when you feel that these influences are still overwhelming you
'There they are, overwhelmed with dread,for God is present in the company of the righteous.' (psalm14:5)
and God is with you cause you are in the company of righteous.

Psalm 13

Well people, its me again! This time, I won't bore you with ten thousand verses and what I think about them. I'll just focus on Psalm 13! So well, here we go.

The first four verses are about when when we are down. That even if we feel that God has forgotten us, we can be assured that he hasn't, and he probably has a plan greater than that we can see. So in our sorrows and problems, try not to forget God. We shouldn't. Anyway, his grace is sufficient for the task.

Instead, as verse 5 and 6 says, we should trust in God's unfailing love, as even if our best friends or bros fall away from us, we've got God's love with us always. So trust in God. He won't let you down.

But remember it has to be 100% man and 100% God.

Yeah. Have a good week ahead and God Bless.

Psalm 12

1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more;

3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue

4 that says, "We will triumph with our tongues;
we own our lips —who is our master?"

5 "Because of the oppression of the weak
and the groaning of the needy,
I will now arise," says the LORD.
"I will protect them from those who malign them."

6 And the words of the LORD are flawless,
like silver refined in a furnace of clay,
purified seven times.

7 O LORD, you will keep us safe
and protect us from such people forever.

when what is vile is honored among men.

My reflections on this Psalm:

At certain times in our life, we might feel that God is not doing anything to ease the sufferings of the godly, the weak and the needy. However, do not be disheartened! He has promised that He will "arise and protect them from those who malign them" (verse 5). Since the "words of the Lord are flawless" (verse 6), He will definitely do this and come to their defence. Thus, call out to Him if you are feeling opressed, weak and needy, and He will come to your rescue. But don’t just look at your own situation. Are you like God in having a special place in your heart for the weak and needy?
