Blessings For Your Life-
Inner Peace
Philippians 4:6-9 Rev Melvyn Mak


Have you every wondered why people worry all the time? Or even why is worrying an uncomfortable feeling? Here is a small bit of info, Being worried is choking or stranggling. Which also means, when you worry for a prolonged period of time, u will die... spiritually la. But IT CAN KILL!

God's 3 blessings of inner peace that transcends all understanding:-

1.Pray
-The hope of our heart
2.Ponder
-the mastery of our mind
3.Practice
-working of our will




1.Pray
-The hope of our heart


Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present tour requests to God. And the peace of God that transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

There is a kind of prayer that brings peace. This prayer is divided into 3 parts:-
A.Everything- We don't only pray for big things but EVERYTHING! Every prayer of small or big things bring you closer to God.

B.Thanksgiving- 1 Thessalonians 5:18 "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Do you know that giving thanks is also a form of worship? Worship Him whatever happens!

C.Trusting- Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep in perfect peace him hose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you." When we trust God with all our hearts, He will give us perfect peace, peace that has no flaws...

D.Releasing- We hold back and never release thats why we worry so much. When we don't release, we are not guarded. Tell God, "Let Your Kingdom come, let Your Will be done." We know that God's ways are perfect, thus we can put our trust in Him.

2.Ponder
-the mastery of our minds


Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things."

Our mind is a battleground. The Devil deceives us to control our minds causing it to be a battleground which later control our actions and speech. Romans 12:2 " Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will." God gives us the power and authority to demolish strongholds and take captive every thought according to the obedience in Christ Jesus. Remember, temptation is not sin. So do not start to fret when negative thoughts come to your mind. Rebuke and reject them in the powerful name of Jesus!

3.Practice
-working of our will


Philippians 4:9 "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me- put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." If we put God's word into practice, we will establish His word in our life. James 1:22 "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." Don't wait, Just Do It! When we put it into practice, we will have the God of peace with us.

16 Sep Blessings For Your Life-
Protection
Psalms 91 Rev Melvyn Mak


Sometimes we try to seek security/protection from other sources, sources which are of the world most of the time. But we as warriors of light know that ALL of us are entitled to God's protection; its just whether we choose to enjoy His protection or not. You must be thinking now, "Of course i want God protection!" But question yourself, how many times have u RAN AWAY from God's shelter instead of staying?

Here are two ways through which we can enjoy God's protection:-

1.Choose to come under GOD'S COVER

Psalms 91:1 "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."

Psalms 91:9 "If you make the Most High your dwelling- even the Lord, who is my refuge"


From the above 2 verses, we can see that God is our



  1. Refuge

  2. The Almighty

  3. The Most High

  4. The Lord

But what does this names have any link with having protection or not? Genesis 19:8b "We must come under the shelter of The Almighty." Protection under the best is always the safest.


But how can we have the cover of God in our lives?
Isaiah 30:1-3 says that when we move out of God's protection, we won't have the perfect 100% protection from Him. Protection is different from immunisation. God's protection isn't just an injection. Those that come under God's cover are those that truly believe God.


Do you know that in Psalms 91, there are 7 I Will's said by God?
eg. "I will be with him in trouble," He who moves with the Spirit, works with the Spirit. Thus, we need God's hedge of protection over every area- our lives.


Job 1:10-12 "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face. The Lord said to Satan, 'Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.' Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord. "

Hosea 2:6-7 "Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way. She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, 'I will go back to my husband as at first for then i was better off than now.' "

God is the husband in the above verse and He will give us a protection that nothing else in the world can ever offer.

2. Choose to live in GOD'S COMMUNITY

A COMMUNITY:- Connection and Commitment


A Christian not in God's body is just like an organ without a body. *ugh..* and we must be committed to one another to lay down our lives for one another, just as Christ laid down His life for us. The community of God is the loving family of God!


Hebrews 3:13 "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness."


James 5:19 "My brothers, if one of you whould wander from the truth and someone should bring him back,"

Blessings For Your Life - Health (9 Sep 2007)
3 John 2, Exodus 15:26 Rev Yong Tai Tong


3 John 2 - Dear friend, I pary that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is gettting along well.

Ex 15:26 - He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.

It's very simple: God wants to bless us with good health!

Additional verses: Psalms 103:2-3, Colossians 1:15, Hebrews 1:3


But how can we receive the blessings of good health?
We need to accomplish these 3 things:

1) Lead A Healthy Lifestyle - Be A Disciplined Steward

2) Live A Holy Life - Deal With Sin

3) Look To The Healer - He Will Deliever Us From Sickness


1) Lead A Healthy Lifestyle - Be A Disciplied Steward

Ex 15:26b - ...pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees...

The bible has instructions or tips on how to stay healthy and remedies when sick or injured.

Diet - Lev 7:23
Hygiene - Deu 23:12-13
Infection - Lev 12-14
Rest - Ex 20:8-11

It is much easier to keep our health when we are young then trying to maintain our health when we are old.

a) exercise regularly
b) eat right
c) rest enough

How to be disciplined?

(i) Possession
- Our body does not belong to us.
- It has been loaned to us from God.
- It is God's body

1 Cor 6:19-20 - Do you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

(ii) Purpose
- We must fulfil God's purpose for us
- We cannot fulfil it if our body is unhealthy.

(iii) Partnership
- Partner with someone who is more disciplined

It is not too late to start again!


2) Live A Holy Life - Deal With Sin

Ex 15:26 - ...listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes...

Pro 3:7-8 - Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring thealth to your body and nourishment to your bones.

The bible often links sickness to sin

Deu 28:58-61- if you do not carefully follow all the words of this law... ...the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your decendants... ...and severe and lingering illnesses...

John 9:1 - Was it the blind man who sinned?

John 5:14 - "Stop sinning or something worse may happen" Jesus said.

James 5:14-16 - ...Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed...

Sinful attitudes, emotions and habits:

Worry and Anixiety
Matt 6:25-34
Phi 4:6-7

Greed and Envy
Gal 5:20-21
Col 3:5-6

Anger, Rage, Bitterness, Unforgiveness
Eph 4:26-32

If there is bitterness in our hearts, we might miss the Grace of God

These emotions are sinful if you let it control your lifestyle.


3) Look To The Healer
- He Will deliever Us From Sickness

Ex15:26c -"...for I am the Lord, who heals you."

Mark 1:40-42 - Story about a man with leprosy.

Num 21:4-9 - Story about the snake bites and bronze snake.

Isa 53:4-5 - "...by his wounds we are healed."

Therefore look to God for healing. He is our Healer!

ahhh so sian... did basically NOTHING ytd and today cos got nothing much to do at home. makes sense rite? other than revise and use com. FYI i dun sleep in the afternoon...

Ytd things were not so good btwn me and my mum cos i was kinda discouraged to see the fact dat she do not trust in the Lord as much as she used to last time. But i also tot that i could not do anyting to help her condition(she has some back prob) and all i can do is pray. even if i pray over her also no use cos she jus doubts and viola~ gone. all i can do now is surrender this to the Lord and stop worrying about it cos it wun do me any good... Now i'm doing my part to retune to God's voice and even retune my own voice(in my mind) to sound like Him. sometimes when i face problems in which i dono wad to do i would jus apply the WWJD(wad would Jesus do) formula. of cos in order to apply this formula you must have the basic foundation of even knowing ur 1+1=2(opened heart+opened ear=2-way conversation with God). When you feel that God is far away, just take some time to read His Word and start to process His Word even in your heart and He will speak. Sometimes you can also listen to worship songs on your mp3 or handphone and mean the Words in your heart and God will minister to you too.(Well, at least it works for me.) Isn't it just comforting knowing the fact that there is always someone there to lend a listening ear and an outstretched arm to help solve ur problems? Because help is just a prayer away. =D

Here's today sermon- closing msg on series of Running With The Winners

Elijah
-Winning When The Whole World Is Falling Apart
1 Kings 19:1-18 Rev Melvyn Mak


James 5:17 "Elijah was a man just like us." Though he did and saw God's miracles, he was still just one of us. And he comes down and says. "Hey, you can win even when your world is falling apart."The question is 'How?'

1.Release our burdens
-God can carry them much better than us


1 Kings 19:10 "He replied, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Isrealites have rejected your covenant, broken down your alters, and put your prophets to death by the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."

Elijah was emotionally worn out. In other words, stressed. Galatians 6:2 says that we should "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fufill the law of Christ." But in Galatians 6:5, it says that we should carry our own load. So which to follow? Both. Carrying each other's burdens refers to giving good advice to someone who comes to you for help and not bear or suffer the same burden as the other party. We don't take the responsibility of change in his/her life but instead we offer up the burdens to the Lord. He has His appointed time to things. When we surrender our load, we will find rest from stress, in the Lord.

What is the difference between rowing a boat and sailing a boat?
We use our ALL our strength to make the boat move when we row a boat. But when we sail a boat, we let the wind move the boat.
Similarly, we let the Holy Spirit move us as we follow.

Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

2.Re-tune to God's voice
-God is speaking to you


In 1 Kings 19:11-12, God revealed Himself to Elijah in a gentle whisper. Yet, He was not in the wind, earthquake or fire. God only speaks when we quieten our hearts, when we are still. When we don't tune in to God's voice, we will be depressed and worn out. We hear 4 voices everyday:-
the Satan's, other's, our's and God's. So most of the time, it is like 3 voice vs 1 voice. Thus, we have to be sensitive to God's. If not, often we drown ourselves out with fear or anxiety when God's voice is drowned out from our lives. But how do we hear the small still voice of God?

a.Be available-
Isaiah 40:29-31 "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and yound men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

b.Be obedient

3.Return to God's calling
-God wants to give us a new beginning


Read 1 Kings 19:15-16. God tells us, "Go back the way you came". God is giving Elijah a new way of doing things and He also wants to give us a new way.
